My Weekend in the City

Last Saturday, I decided to try something different. I usually stay at home and relax on weekends, but this time I planned a full day out in the city. I woke up early and walked to the local market near my flat. The market opens at eight, and I arrived just as the stalls were setting up. I chatted with a few sellers and tasted some fresh bread from a small bakery — it smelled amazing. After that, I visited an old friend who lives close to the river. We hadn't seen each other in months, so we talked for hours. She showed me photos from her trip to Portugal, and I listened to all her stories about the beaches and the food there. In the afternoon, I called my sister and we watched a film together on a video call, even though we live in different cities. Later, I cooked a simple pasta dish for dinner and cleaned the kitchen before I finally finished for the day. By the time I finished, it was almost midnight! I still studied a little English before bed, because I try to practise every day, even on busy weekends like this one. It wasn't a quiet Saturday at all — but it was one of the best weekends I've had in a long time.

Past simple: adding -ed to regular verbs
