तीखी भाषा क्या है और यह अंग्रेज़ी सीखने वालों के लिए क्यों मायने रखती है?
उस कोर्स में आपका स्वागत है जो वास्तव में समझाता है कि जब मूल वक्ता ऐसी भाषा इस्तेमाल करते हैं जो तुम्हारी किताब में नहीं थी, तो क्या हो रहा होता है। यह बहुत कुछ स्पष्ट करने वाला है। 🦊
शब्दावली
📚 Profanity
Profanity is defined as language considered offensive or taboo in formal contexts — but its boundaries shift dramatically between cultures.
🚫 Taboo language
Taboo language violates social norms — the word taboo itself comes from the Tongan tabu, meaning forbidden.
📊 Register
Register is the level of formality appropriate to a context — getting register wrong is one of the most common errors English learners make.
💢 Expletive
An expletive is a word or phrase used as an exclamation expressing strong emotion — not all expletives are taboo.
🔄 Dysphemism
Dysphemism is using a harsher word where a neutral one exists — the opposite of euphemism.
💨 Cathartic language
Cathartic language is used for emotional release — research shows strong language can genuinely reduce stress.
📢 Emphatic language
Emphatic language adds force or intensity to a statement — strong language often serves this function.
🤝 Social bonding language
Social bonding language signals group membership and closeness — informal language between close friends often serves this function.
↔️ Formality spectrum
The formality spectrum runs from highly formal to highly informal — strong language sits at the informal end but follows grammar.
🎯 Passive vs active skill
Understanding strong language is a passive skill — you need to recognise it, not necessarily produce it.
